Chris Kottke and the Roots of Unity

The Roots of Unity is a small jazz ensemble of variable size, headed by trumpeter Chris Kottke. Their repertoire includes both straight ahead and latin jazz, from classic standards to modern originals.

Kottke attended the Berklee College of Music and was active in the Boston jazz scene for about a decade before moving to Sarasota in 2016 to pursue his day job as a math professor at New College of Florida. In addition to the Roots of Unity, Kottke can be also heard in such Sarasota-based jazz ensembles such as Ocean's 11 and the Sarasota Jazz Project.

APPROACH INFORMATION (Due to Construction on 41):
Sarasota is currently installing a roundabout at 14th Street and 41 South and has eliminated left-hand turns if you are headed southbound toward Sarasota Downtown. You can avoid construction and easily get to The Reserve if you are southbound by turning left at the lighting store (Light Up Your Life) and heading South on Cocoanut to a right-hand turn on 14th Street.

PARKING
We have 100 parking spaces to the South of our location, at West Indies (1312 N. Tamiami Trail) and after 5 pm, at the Center for Arts & Humanity (1226 N. Tamiami Trail), also directly south of our building. Parking is also: 1) In The Reserve lot (concrete spaces or spaces on the pebbles), 2) On-site in our designated parking area at the intersection of 14th and 41 (follow the small brown Reserve sign). All are a very short walk to The Reserve.
